Southern Utah offers few experiences as unique as canyoneering.
To spend a day descending a canyon is to feel the magnetic pull of exploration. To combine 3 completely unique and different canyons into a single day descent is to experience the very best of what this region has to offer.
To complete this on your own after a suitable course of instruction is to feel a sense of competence and achievement missing from most every day lives.
This program makes that experience a reality.
Preparation day:
A few hours to review techniques, fit equipment and discuss logistics.
Descent Day:
After an early morning drive, first light finds you descending Birch Hollow, an intricately carved slot canyon via 11 rappels under the supervision of a professional guide. As we descend the canyon the guide will gradually work them self out of the equation and get your group to function as a team in evaluating, rigging, and rappelling each of the 11 drops and other obstacles in the canyon.
At the bottom of Birch we accompany you to the boundary of Zion National park, where we have a gourmet lunch and then leave you with the necessary gear to complete the remaining portion of Orderville Canyon on your own.
This will require a couple miles of hiking, eventually working through one of the most beautiful sections of canyon in the world via a few short rappels into pools of running water, some wading and possible swimming as you descend toward the Virgin River Narrows.
The confluence of Orderville canyon and the Virgin river is considered to be the deepest and narrowest canyon on the planet. Here you will turn up stream and hike in and out of the river through stupendous scenery the for a couple miles to the temple of Sinuwava. Here you jump on the Zion canyon shuttle for transport to the Visitor center, where your vehicle awaits for the drive home.
Note: The second day of this program is an exercise in endurance and requires a high level of stamina and fitness.
