The Narrows With No People

The East fork of the Virgin River offers access to one of the most remote landscapes in the Zion region. The Paiutes referred to this canyon as Parunuweap, which means “Roaring Water.” And while that is accurate during the spring runoff and flash floods, most of the rest of the time, the river is a tranquil flow through deep red cliffs and side canyons.  This adventure entails a 13 mile UTV ride through a maze of sand roads to the trail-head at the literal end of the road.  After a brief descent into the canyon, the route is in and out of the shin deep river for the next couple of miles as the cliffs rise and side canyons present opportunities for exploration. Lush vegetation and deep red colored rock offer a unique opportunity for both photography as well as steeping yourself in utter solitude.
